acetate

What are acetate glasses?

The material acetate is an elastic and dimensionally stable material, which is light as a feather and extremely comfortable to wear on the skin. Specially bonded layers and sophisticated shading simulate almost 3D effects. Acetate can be edited very extensively and there are hardly any limits to the design and imagination.

All of these advantages make acetate a made-to-measure material that has found a wide variety of uses in ophthalmic optics.

How is acetate made?

Acetate is made from cotton in a complex process. Cellulose is made from dried cotton, which is then ground into a powder. This powder is mixed with acetic acid, mixed with color additives, patterned as required and processed into solid acetate plates. From this base material, appropriately designed raw frames are then cut out with the aid of a computer. The end product, the acetate eyeglass frame, can be produced in many colors, in crystal clear, matt or high-gloss polished.

Essedue sunglasses are manufactured in 72 phases, 120 hours in a drum and approximately 40 working days. The latest machines are used to support the manual work of many employees. Particular attention is paid to colors and adhesives made from cellulose acetate to create exclusive patterns and color combinations. The lines are rounded, sensual and the colors are unique.
